End grain cutting boards are already in production, high quality than classic cutting boards. Our “Cherry wood end grain cutting board – end grain“ 🍒 is considered an absolute exotic among the end grain boards. Cherry is characterized by its reddish-brown wood with a distinctive grain. When making the board, the wood is not cut lengthways to the trunk as usual, but across the trunk. The individual cubes or rectangles are then put together in such a way that the Annual rings of the tree 🌳 are visible from above.
Please note: The final pattern is randomly created during the production process, so there may be differences in the color and shape of the end grain pattern (see product photos).

Cherry wood is one of the local precious woods and is therefore rare and expensive. Its fine structure ensures a matt, shiny surface that can be polished very smoothly. You can easily wipe with a damp clothSolid wood absorbs moisture, but always releases it again. By oiling it occasionally, the wood retains its distinctive and great look. You can buy the right oil in our shop. We recommend food-safe biological Linseed oil varnish.

Which wood do you recommend for an end grain cutting board? If you use different types of wood in one board, won't there be tension cracks because the woods have different expansion properties?

In principle, we recommend all types of wood except maple and beech for end grain boards. The two mentioned have greater tensions, which arise when moisture enters. However, cherry, ash, oak, walnut and birch are all recommended.
